Audrey Gerberding, 15, is a 1st generation racer from Rochester Illinois. She started her racing career at the age of 7 in a quarter midget. In her 2013 rookie season, she had 1 fast time qualifier & 1 feature event win.
In 2014, she added a restricted box stock QRC outlaw kart to her stable. That year she ran both, quarter midget & outlaw karts at multiple tracks. She won track championships at Ealeyville Speedway & was awarded a female driver of the year award for the traveling series that she ran.
For 2015, we ran the quarter midget in 120 &160 classes. We moved up to an urestricted class in the outlaw kart program. Both cars showed growth through the season as speed & control were gained.
2016’s season found us with a focus on our Quarter midget program as we chose to chase national points with the USAC .25 series. We were able race several noteable tracks, like “little” Eldora, Tri-City “junior” speedway & even ran pavement at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s small track followed by a lap on the 2.5 mile world famous oval. We ended our season in the top 25 nationally in points for the year, 6th in our region & 3rd in our club. That same year we swapped our outlaw kart to a 250cc “dirt bike style” engine & while we did not ever enter a race that season, due to age, we did practice the car at several events & felt like we would be ready for the following year.
2017, at age 11, we went to 250 outlaw karts as a full-time effort. We ran multiple tracks & special events. Our efforts ended with a 3rd in points both at Ealeyville Speedway & in Zach Daum’s eight race series. We considered it a great learning year, as this car was much faster & drove completely different from the small motor class she had been in previously.
2018 added a 2nd weekly series at “The Raceway” in New Berlin, Il in addition to Ealaeyville. We won championships at both of those tracks in the 250 class as well as winning some special events & doing well at other tracks we traveled to. This season was very good for growth as a driver, car control improved greatly.
Our 2019 season brought some of the biggest changes since the start of racing for Audrey. We jumped from the 400 pound, 40 hp outlaw kart - to a full size dirt modified chassis weighing over 2000 pounds powered by a 4 cylinder engine. We followed the KidModz Racing series to 11 tracks for 16 nights of racing. We finished in the top 3 all season, ending up 2nd in points with 1 heat race win. She won “Rookie of the Year” honors for the series.
Audrey is active in her school, plays clarinet in the band, is on Student Council & the Scholastic Bowl team. She is a member of Cooper Jets 4H club. She enjoys any time that she can find to be in the shop & handles all of her own car maintenance & even changed the body from blue to white on her modified.
In 2019, she was selected as the 1st Jr. Ambassodor for Shift Up Now. She will be mentored by some great female drivers & looks forward to growing for the future.
2020 found Audrey back in a KidModz car. 2020 lead to runner up in the points series, winning 7 heat races and 5 feature races. 2020 brought a uniques set of challenges & we were thankful for a healthy season.
2021 brought the next step to us a little earlier in our season than we had anticipated as we purchesed the UMP modified Audrey will use in her 2022 rookie A-mod season. We continued our efforts with our established KidModz program but knew we had to have an eye on the future. After purchasing the car & a drivetrain, we quickly realized that we were going to need a guide on this journey & Jake Griffin agreed to come along! Jake helped us put together the abundance of parts that we had aquired & hold the steering wheel while we learned. Over the course of the 21 season Audrey ended up with multiple heat race wins, 1 feature win, 9th in Peoria Speedway points, 4th in National points, & the Charleston Speedway track champion. Jake took our Mullins powered Impressive race car to 2 heat wins, several top 5 & top 10 feature finishes & 1 win at Charleston Speedway. In addition, he had several notable finishes in National level races like UMP Fall nationals & Tri-City Speedway's Mod Mania, making A mains every night. He gave Audrey the insight & confidence that she needs to enter UMP competition. We are greatful for his efforts.
